Just over four miles, or just over 10 minutes' drive, northwest of the town, near the village of Prignac-et-Marcamps, the Grotte de Pair-non-Pair is a small cave decorated with prehistoric engravings believed to be up to 33,000 years old. A permanent museum exhibition at the site houses artefacts discovered in the cave. Saint-André-de-Cubzac is also famous as the birthplace of marine oceanographer, filmmaker and explorer Jacques Yves-Cousteau and a plaque on the local pharmacy, formerly run by his grandfather, celebrates the fact.
