Rental Policies

All additional drivers must meet all rental requirements.

Additional drivers must appear at the rental counter with the primary renter.

Additional drivers must sign the rental agreement.

An additional daily fee may apply for any Additional Drivers.

 

The additional driver can only be added to the contract at the pick up location.

Minimum age to rent a vehicle is 21, and maximum rental age is 75 years.
Rental rates may be higher for renters and additional drivers under the age of 25

Unrestricted driving within Nicaragua. Renters wishing to visit Costa Rica must prearrange at time of rental, for a vehicle exchange at the Nicaragua or Costa Rica border. A three -3 - day minimum notice is required. Upon vehicle exchange at the border, the original agreement is closed and a second rental agreement is issued by Alamo Costa Rica - same rate is applied. A vehicle exchange fee totaling 50 USD is assessed, 25 USD charged by Nicaragua when the original agreement is closed plus 25 USD charged by Costa Rica when the new agreement is opened. When the renter returns to Nicaragua, the same process applies plus an additional 50 USD exchange fee. Renters not planning to return to Nicaragua must notify the rental location in Nicaragua when prearranging the vehicle exchange.

Collision Damage Waiver–Theft Protection CDW-TP is not insurance. The purchase of CDW is mandatory and is required in order to rent a vehicle.  Payment of deductible apply. CDW-TP is mandatory unless renter's credit card has CDW coverage. In order to decline CDW-TP, proof of credit card coverage is required.  If CDW-TP is declined, renter is responsible for the full value of damage to the vehicle.  If you purchase CDW-TP, we agree, subject to the actions listed on the rental agreement that invalidate CDW, to contractually waive your responsibility for all or part of the cost of damage to, loss or theft of the vehicle. A CDW-TP deductible of  2000 USD apply. In order to confirm if credit card insurance allows client to decline CDW-TP, a call to the bank may be required.

All one way rentals must be booked in advance and are subject to availability. One way charges apply and are payable at the time of rental.  The one way charges cannot be prepaid.

Collision Damage Waiver-Theft Protection (CDW-TP) is not insurance. The purchase of CDW-TP is optional and not required to rent a vehicle. If you purchase CDW-TP, the rental company contractually waives your responsibility for the cost of damage to, loss or theft of the vehicle, after the deductible, during the rental period in Nicaragua unless you invalidate the coverage as provided in the rental agreement.

A deductible of up to $1,500 USD applies for CDW, depending on car class. A deductible of up to $2,000 USD applies for TP, depending on car class.

Please be aware that most auto insurance policies from outside Nicaragua do not provide coverage in Nicaragua. Employees of the local rental car company are not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the customer's personal auto insurance coverage. The renter should contact their insurance company prior to arrival with any questions regarding their specific coverage. CDW-TP is included in the Enterprise Protection Package (EPP). If the renter declines both CDW-TP and EPP, the renter is responsible for the full value of damage to or loss or the vehicle.

Enterprise Protection Package (EPP) is a package product which includes Collision Damage Waiver-Theft Protection (CDW-TP), Tire and Windshield Protection (TWP), Third Party Liability (TPL) and Deductible Protection (DP) at a discounted price. Enterprise Protection Package (EPP) is not insurance. If you purchase EPP, the rental company contractually waives your responsiblity for the cost of damage to, loss or theft of the vehicle (including tires and windshield), and up to the policy limits for damages and injuries to third parties during the rental period in Nicaragua subject to the actions listed on the rental agreement that invalidate the coverage as described in the rental agreement.

No deductible applies.

As a customer, you have a choice as to how you would like to pay for fuel.

Option 1- We Refill
This option allows the renter to pay Enterprise at the end of the rental for gas used but not replaced. Price per gallon will be higher than local fuel prices. A 50 percent surcharge will apply.

Option 2- You Refill
This option allows the renter to return the vehicle with a full tank of gas to avoid extra fuel charges.

Tire and Windshield Protection –TWP- Tire and Windshield Protection waives customers liability in the event of damage to tires or windshield caused by roads or bad conditions, included if client takes LDW and DP together or MC. Coverage does not cover theft of tires, hubcaps, lugnuts, etc.

 

ZERO RISK PACK is a protection product that includes CDW, TP AND TWP. This product reduces the excess to zero for the following, damage if caused by accident, fire or vandalism, theft or attempted theft of the rental vehicle or any of its parts. The purchase of TP - Theft Protection and CDW - Collision Damage Waiver is required for renters to qualify for this product. The Daily fee excludes local taxes and surcharges and Third Party Liability excess and Administration costs are reduced to zero. In cases of violation such as the use of alcohol, drugs or any other misuse as stated in the Terms and Conditions, the renter is responsible for full value of the damage. The renter is responsible for full value of the damage in case of negligence, such as not having taken measures to ensure the rental vehicles safety and security. The renter is also responsible for the full value of the loss.

Deductible Protection - DP - may be purchased as an additional protection along with the CDW and TP. DP will reduce the renters Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protections deductible to 0 USD.

 

Enterprise Plus customers can earn points on qualifying rentals and redeem points at this location. Redemption reservations must be booked online by the customer, in advance of their scheduled pick up date.

Emerald Club customers can earn credits on qualifying rentals at this location. Redemption reservations must be booked in advance of their scheduled pick up date (either online or by phone). Note: Emerald Club members can earn credits on National and Enterprise brand rentals, but can only redeem at National brand locations.

A reservation must be booked in advance, and must have the member number attached, in order to earn credit/points.

Accident Protection AP may be purchased as an additional protection besides the basic CDW and SLC, and all together will reduce renters Collision Damage Waiver- deductible to 0.00 USD.

An authorization on the credit card in the amount of  1000 USD plus the cost of the rental will be taken at the time of rental. This authorization amount may be used toward damages of vehicles or late charges.  In case that customer declined LDW, the amount hold on credit card will be  2000,00 USD  plus estimated of rental.

Debit or check cards are considered to be any non-credit card American Express , MasterCard , VISA , Diners Club , Discover  logo. Debit or Check cards are not accepted at this location.

Cash is not accepted at this location.

Roadside Protection - RAP- If selected and paid for at the time of rental, Owner offers Roadside Assistance, which provides 24-7 roadside assistance without additional charge.

RAP includes towing- not related to an accident-  flat tire service- if no inflated spare is available, vehicle will be towed- and lockout service- if keys are locked inside the vehicle. Jumpstarts and fuel delivery service for up to 5 gallons- or equivalent liters of fuel. Tire damaged beyond repair as a result of driver neglect is the responsibility of the renter.

RAP does not include replacement of lost keys and the cost of a lost key would be 50.00 USD.

Must meet the location's minimum age requirements. Present a valid driver's license. Present a major credit card in renter's name at the time of rental.

The purchase of Suplementary Liability Coverage  SLC is always mandatory.  It can not be declined by any Credit Card.  The SLC deductible is 20 percentage of total damages to the third party property.  SLC is only valid when rental vehicle is in Costa Rica.  This coverage combined with Collition Damage Waiver-Theft Protection conform the Mandatory basic protection.  Payment of deductible apply.  SLC provides you with minimum financial responsibility limits as outlined in the applicable motor vehicle financial responsibility laws of the country where the vehicle is operated.  SLC  covers Ambulance Service, Doctors, Hospitalization and Nurses for third parties with a maximum limit of  230,000 USD per event.

Third Party Liability (TPL) The purchase of Third Party Liability (TPL) is required by the rental location on all vehicles unless you provide proof of liability coverage or purchase the Enterprise Protection Package (EPP), which includes TPL. Customers can obtain coverage for damages and injuries to third parties, up to the policy limits, under the local rental car company's insurance by purchasing its TPL protection, and such a purchase is required unless the customer presents valid written proof of current liability insurance specifying coverage in Nicarcagua or if the customer purchases Enterprise Protection Package (EPP) which includes TPL. TPL provides coverage for incidents which occur during the rental period in Nicargua. TPL coverage is subject to the actions listed on the rental agreement that invalidate the coverage as described in the rental agreement. A deductible of up to $5,000 USD applies.Please be aware that most auto insurance policies from outside of Nicaragua do not provide coverage in Nicaragua. Liability insurance purchased on third party travel websites is not an acceptable form of coverage. Employees of the local rental car company are not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the customer's personal auto insurance coverage. The renter should contact their insurance company prior to arrival with any questions regarding their specific coverage.

To rent a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the United States and Canada, you will need the following:

  • To be 25 years old 
  • A valid driver's license with a photo
  • A photo ID (For example: a driver’s license or passport)
  • Credit or debit card (check the acceptable forms of payment at the location you’re renting from)

Some locations may require additional information, including but not limited to: 

  • An International Driving Permit (IDP): If the license is written in a language or characters different to those of the country of rental, an IDP is also required. Renters are advised to check whether local authorities require foreign drivers to present an International Driving Permit to avoid the risk of potential fines. Renters with licenses from countries who are not part of the International Driving Permit Agreement should carry a certified translation.
  • Return travel and accommodation information: Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and accommodation information while in the UK. 

As a customer, you have a choice as to how you would like to pay for fuel.

Fuel Policy at Non-Airport locations:

  • You may refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level you received when you picked up the vehicle, or if you choose not to refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level, you will be charged the local Enterprise rate which is typically above the local pump price. An additional refueling charge may apply at some locations.
  • A full tank of gas is not guaranteed.

Fuel Policy at Airport Car Rental Locations:

  • You may refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level you received when you picked up the vehicle, or if you choose not to refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level, you will be charged the local Enterprise rate which is typically above the local pump price. An additional refueling charge may apply at some locations.
  • You may opt to pre-pay for fuel -- Pre-pay gives you two conveniences:
    • You can avoid the hassle of having to fuel up the vehicle before returning.
    • Pre-pay fuel option is calculated at the local rate of gas minus a per gallon discount.

Note: Prepaid fuel is only sold in full tanks at the discounted price per gallon and is not refundable. Local fuel rates will vary by the area you are renting a vehicle.
