What to do and see in Billund

The majority of tourist attractions in Billund are related to Lego. In the downtown area, you can visit Ole Kirk's House museum and discover how Lego's founder lived and the environment in which he developed the world-famous toy. From the town centre, walking paths take you to Billund's Sculpture Park. Here you'll find a beautifully landscaped trail dotted with pieces of modern sculpture and picture-perfect picnic spots.

Billund's proximity to Legoland makes it one of Europe's top destinations for family holidays. In addition to the actual resort and holiday village, you can visit Lego House in the city centre. This is an interactive learning experience where children and adults can explore all the creative possibilities that Lego bricks offer.

Another option is driving to Lalandia water park, located only 3 minutes away from Legoland. This is a large indoor water park and one of Denmark's most popular attractions. In addition to swimming pool-related fun, the park offers family-friendly entertainment, plus activities like ziplining, mini go-karts, or teqball. If visiting with children, make sure they save some energy for a day out at WOW Park, an amusement park located in a forested area just a short 5-minute drive south of the city centre.

Back in the downtown area, Billund offers a variety of places to eat and drink. In the streets surrounding Lego House, you'll come across cosy restaurants, pizzerias, gastropubs, cafes and steakhouses. On the way out of town near Billund's sports field, a local brewery makes for an interesting stop as here you can learn about the ancient Danish tradition of mead-making.

There's no shopping centre in Billund since the town's shops are more boutique-oriented. A wider range of shopping options is available in the nearby town of Grindsted, which you can reach in a 15-minute drive. The nearest shopping centre is Kolding Storcenter, located 32 kilometres away from Billund.

The majority of events in this region take place during the summer months. For example, Vorbasse market is held in July in a town located a 15-minute drive from Billund. This market has a long history going back almost 300 years and started as a place where local farmers bought and sold horses back in the 18th century. Nowadays, the market has evolved into one of the biggest events of its kind in the country, where all kinds of goods are for sale. At the same time, the market offers a lively atmosphere with live music and plenty of food stalls. In addition, Legoland has a full calendar of events throughout the year, including Christmas and Halloween-themed shows.
